“With Eddie’s Help”, Inc. is a New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation established in honor of Edward. T (Eddie) Strauss who was lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Eddie was a courageous and generous person who spent a great deal of his time helping other people.

The corporation will continue that effort by seeking out opportunities to improve the lives of children and adults by providing financial assistance wherever and whenever possible to enhance opportunities for others to have a better future. Therefore, the corporation will raise money for several charitable and educational purposes to honor Eddie’s memory and attempt to emulate the same attributes that Eddie exhibited during his lifetime.

These purposes will include but are not limited to the following:

Disability Assistance

Eddie became very familiar with the unique and undaunting challenges facing victims of ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, medically known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, because his Uncle Joe suffered from it for many years. Throughout the United States, many individuals suffer from this dreaded disease. Many ALS patients encounter problems not covered by medical insurance. The loss of vocal communications between the ALS patient and caretakers/others is one of the worst problems. Yet, through available hardware and software, the ALS patient can continue communicating with others were they able to afford this equipment. “With Eddie’s Help”, Inc. works closely with ALS patients and equipment manufacturers providing the financial support which enables ALS patients to acquire this basic life sustaining equipment either by becoming their medical insurance co-payee or in some cases, providing full monetary support. We will continue to provide ALS patients the financial assistance that will allow them to live out their lives with as much dignity and comfort as possible.

Civic

The Woodbridge Patrolman’s Benevolent Association. This is the local PBA where Eddie and his family were raised and where his brothers and sisters still live. The PBA is very active in the community and becomes aware of special need circumstances which the fund would also like to help support such as; blood drives and bone marrow testing, and annual events they support including project graduation and “Buddy Ball” (organized sports for children with Cerebral Palsy). In addition, we evaluate requests from other PBA’s who share like community involvement and events. We will donate as circumstances allow.

Educational

Educational scholarships have been established at John F. Kennedy High School in Iselin, New Jersey, (this is the high school Eddie attended). The corporation has set the guidelines for the scholarship but the scholarship committee of the high school will choose the recipients each year.
